3 Darc Award nominations!
No less than three Amsterdam Light Festival Artworks have been selected for this year’s Darc Awards, the Oscars for light design.

my light is your light is nominated in the Low Budget Best Light Art Scheme category. alaa minawi’s work was made especially for the Amsterdam Light Festival and was shown at the Istanbul Light Festival, Beirut Spring Festival, Winter Lights at Canary Wharf and in Brussels. The sculpture group is a symbol for the sadness and uncertainty of existence, but also portrays optimism and confidence in the future.
Light (onda) Flow
Light (onda) Flow by Carla Jardim is nominated in the Low Budget Best Light Art Scheme category from the Darc Awards as well. The work was shwn in 2014 during the Amsterdam Light Festival. ‘onda’ means ‘wave’ in Spanisch and Portugese. The artwork is a poetic representation of the fusion of light and water in a serpent-like movement, where these two natural phenomena merge together.
Northern Lights by the Swedish Aleksandra Statimirovic was made for the Amsterdam Light Festival in 2015. Her work was then presented at the Light in Jerusalem festival in 2016. The artwork was inspired by the northern lights, aurora boraelis, the most spectacular and poetic light phenomenon from the Northern Hemisphere. For Stratimirovic the phenomenon is a symbol for the beauty of friendship. Northern Lights is nominated for the High Budget Best Light Art Scheme category of the Darc Awards.
