Over de Call for Concepts

As our Call for Concepts is currently open, we are receiving many reactions and submissions. Next to that, we are getting some questions about the submission fee for the call. We would like to elaborate on the fact why we are forced to ask for a small contribution from you as an artist.

As a cultural ANBI foundation it is our mission to enrich and connect people through light art. We do this without structural financial support, meaning we have to retrieve our financial means every year again from subsidies, art funds, donations and stakeholder’s contributions.

Since the start of Amsterdam Light Festival in 2012 we have a unique open call process, where we aim to reach artists worldwide to submit a concept for a light artwork for the festival. This process consists of several rounds. During the first two rounds you are asked to submit details of an artwork concept, such as role of light, fit to the theme and budget estimations. A team consisting of a Lead Curator, Lead Storyteller, a jury and technical producers then reviews your concept, after which a final selection is made. Upon selection you will be asked to commission a work for the festival, in which we cover the artist fee and all expenses for the creation of the artwork.

We hope to receive your concept via the call and to welcome you to our artist community!
