Introducing the artists

We proudly introduce the artists of Edition 14 to you! Get to know the creative makers of the twenty light artworks of this year's festival.

ALICIA EGGERT

Eggert (US) draws inspiration from physics and philosophy. Her work gives material form to language and time across a variety of mediums. She is perhaps best known for her text-based neon works, thereby increasingly focusing on political activism and social justice.

BEELDJUTTERS

Beeldjutters (NL) is a collective that creates poetic installations at the intersection of light art and theatre. They have done projects for i.a. Dutch Design Week, Nationaal Monument Kamp Vught and international light art festivals, making them experienced in translating complex subjects to accessible art experiences.

ESTHER ROLINSON

Rolinson (UK) is a multimedia artist. She places hand-made processes of drawing and sculpture alongside new media, to explore the nature of human connections. Light is central to her practice, as a material that wakes you up and that evokes deep sensory responses.

FILIP ROCA

Roca (ME) is known for his visually stimulating projection mapping artworks. His works have been exhibited at light art festivals all over the world, from Tokyo to Lyon. Next to that, he has over 10 years of experience in art direction, animation and motion graphics.

HENRY HU

Hu (SG) is a multidisciplinary artist, with a background in technology and visual design. He combines digital techniques with motion graphics to explore themes of nature and transformation. A passionate scuba diver, Hu often draws inspiration from marine life.

JON VOSS

Voss (UK) is initially trained as an architect. In 2004 he moved to Australia where he pursued his passion for art and design. Currently, Voss lives and works in the south of France, where he continues to create new works of sculpture, light art, kinetic art and illustration.

JOP VISSERS VORSTENBOSCH

Vissers Vorstenbosch (NL) graduated as visual artist and is trained as oil painter. He has gradually expanded his practice to new media, such as layered plexiglass and LED, to present his paintings in new ways. His work has been exhibited at numerous festivals, museums and events.

LUMINARISTE

Luminariste consists of light designer and stained glass artists Benjamin Nesme (FR) and illustrator and designer Marc Sicard (FR). They combine different applications of light to create tailor-made stories for public spaces, making use of craft and digital practices.

LYNNE LEEGTE

Leegte (NL) is a visual artist who works with photography, installations and sculpture. Her work is marked by tranquility and melancholy, evoking themes of reflection and transience. With materials such as alabaster, textile and paper, she explores fragility and ephemeral beauty.

M MOSER ASSOCIATES

This architecture, engineering, and construction firm focuses on the human experience, with a mix of art, science and technology. The team that works on the artwork for Amsterdam Light Festival consists of designer Ali Ucer (US), experience designer Jess Adkins (UK), and communications specialist Alex Kendrick (UK).

MARINELLA SENATORE

Senatore (IT) has a background in music, fine arts and cinema. Her work is centered on collective engagement, aesthetic exploration and social interaction. Another important element in her practice light, which she uses as medium for storytelling and as an instrument for resistance and cohesion.

MICHELA BONZI

Bonzi (IT) explores and experiments with different applications of light, often within an architectural, urban context. She runs her own lighting design company based in Switserland and creates light objects for the public space, as well as for interior design purposes.

NOORTJE VAN DEN EIJNDE & JOS AGASI

Van den Eijnde (NL) is VJ by origin and has expanded her practice to video mapping and scenography. Agasi (NL) is a multidisciplinary artist and scenographer. He creates works for the public space and exhibitions. They share an interest in water and the behaviour of light.

PAVOL TRUBEN

Truben (SK) is a visual artist. In his work he addresses current social issues, which he reflects on with a subtle dose of irony. He works with different types of media, from drawing, to print, to light art. Next to that, he is a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava.

SPY

SpY (ES) transforms the public space in a playful, yet critical manner. Over the years, his portfolio has expanded to a broad collection of large scale installations and interventions. SpY's work poses questions about the reality of human relations, often in dialogue with the urban environment.

STEFAN REISS

In his practice, Reiss (DE) explores drawing, painting, installation, projection and light. At the core lies the exploration of the concept of transformation, which he understands as a multi-dimensional process, taking place in the analogue and digital world. His approach centers on human perception.

THOMAS BENDIKSEN

Bendiksen (NO) is a lighting designer and has worked with light for over 25 years, in, amongst other things, the public space. He is fascinated by the way in which light impacts experiences. In his work, he often discusses themes like sustainability, social connection and the relation between humans and nature.

VENDEL & DE WOLF

This duo consists of Paul Vendel (NL) and Sandra de Wolf (NL). They have been working together and seperately as (light) artists for 33 years. They create commission-based work for public spaces, temporary installations for exhibitions and artworks for light art festivals.

XINYI WANG

Wang (AU) is architect and artist. His work does not necessarily center around medium, but around meaning. Every work raises the question of what story the location wants to tell and how the public can experience this. In his working process he uses poetry, research and craft.

ZENISK

Zenisk (NO) is an independent design studio specialising in lighting design with a strong technical, aesthetic and artistic foundation. The multidisciplinary team brings together expertise from architecture, theatre, exhibition design and construction. The festival project is led by creative director Kristin Bredal.
