On October 27 2025, Amsterdam will celebrate its 750th anniversary. This will be celebrated grandly from October 27 2024 onwards, until the actual birthday a year later. We celebrate Amsterdam750 with light. With art. With each other. With Edition 13: Rituals.
SPECIAL FESTIVAL CRUISE
35 Amsterdam residents (and their +1’s) that are committed to making the city a better place can enjoy a special canal cruise during Edition 13. And who the lucky ones are is up to you!
Think of that neighbour who always keeps your street clean, that friend who waters the plants while you’re away, or that one colleague who volunteers for their community next to their day-to-day job. These special Amsterdammers deserve to be in the spotlight during the darkest days of the year. That is why you can nominate them for the special Amsterdam750 cruise during Edition 13 of Amsterdam Light Festival! Click on the button below for the nomination form.
Nominating someone is without commitment and can be done until 1 October 2024. The invitees will be announced on 27 October 2024. More information can be found in the form.
LIGHT ART
Especially for Amsterdam 750, an artwork will be placed at an iconic location in the heart of the city. The exact location and the artist will be announced in due course.
CITY DISTRICTS
We are developing five permanent light artworks in the Greater Amsterdam Region, commissioned by the City of Amsterdam. The areas Sloterdijk, Noord, Weesp, Nieuw-West and Zuid-Oost will be enriched by an artwork specifically designed for these locations. For this project, titled 'De Stad Verlicht, De Mens Verbonden', five scale models will be presented to the city.
EDUCATION
In the same week the anniversary kicks off, the annual education project will commence, involving over 1500 children collaborating with an artist, this year Jeroen Alexander Meijer, to create an artwork that will be included in the art route. The artwork, with the working title 'Mind Bridges', explores the origins of rituals.
