GOUDEN BOCHT

A fitting spot, because this part of Herengracht where the artwork is placed is called de Gouden Bocht; the Golden Bend. It was the most expensive part of the city back in the seventeenth and eighteenth century, where the rich citizens of Amsterdam built their homes. Utilizing moving black blocks, powered by an algorithm, Peter Vink mimics what seems to be a stock market ticker. Again fitting, because the stock market is very much a playground for AI technology. Whether it is a blessing or a curse remains the question: the financial world is just as fragile as the canal wall and the historical city it supports.
