Work. Burnout. Yoga. Repeat.
Under Pressure asks how we can find the balance between the fast-paced world we’ve created for ourselves, and our need to unwind, decompress and reload.
We are a generation whose performance is constantly tracked, measured, and analysed. Apps count our steps, software evaluates the quality of our work, and on social media we compare ourselves to the whole world. We are expected to grow, move fast, and deliver quality. Not only in our jobs, but also at home, in relationships, and within our own ambitions. With so much pressure on our minds, it’s not enough to just squeeze in a yoga class twice a week anymore – true balance requires a bigger shift.
Drawing from his own experience with burnout, Truben depicts figures searching for relief through familiar wellness rituals: stretching, breathing, balancing. Yet, they remain precarious. The irony is intentional. Truben's use of materials and proportion creates a striking contrast in these figures. The thin red bodies are rigid and strong, while the inflated heads, held in place by tightly wound straps, represent the enormous pressure building in our minds.
But there's hope. Get a little closer and you'll hear them breathing, letting go of the built-up tension. They remind us that release is possible. We only need to exhale.
