WHEN IS THE NEXT OPEN CALL?

The Open Call for Edition 15 (festival dates: 26 November 2026 - 17 January 2027) opens on Monday March 3, 2025. Deadline for submissions is April 6, 2025 23:59h (Central European Time).

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE OPEN CALL?

Anyone can! Whether you're part of a professional art studio, or an upcoming talent; we are curious to see your idea. We encourage creatives from diverse backgrounds, gender identities and ethnicities to participate.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

We're looking for new ideas (new original concept), as well as already-existing artworks (existing work). You can find more information in the artist briefing.

HOW DO I SUBMIT AN IDEA OR ARTWORK?

The first step is to request the artist briefing. Here you can find all information you need for your submission. You will also receive an email with a submission ID and information on the next steps. We do not accept submissions via email or via other ways.

WHAT ARE THE SUBMISSION CRITERIA?

There are several criteria your submission should adhere to, such as feasibility and originality. These can be found in the artist briefing.

WHAT DOES THE PROCESS LOOK LIKE?

1. The Open Call for Edition 15 is open from March 3, 2025 until April 6, 2025.
2. If you're shortlisted for round 2, additional technical and budget information will be requested
3. In September 2025, the preliminary selection is announced
4. In January 2026 the selected artists are invited to Amsterdam for the kick-off days
5. At the end of November/beginning of December 2026 it is showtime!

DO I NEED TO PAY FOR MY SUBMISSION?

As an independent cultural foundation, we do not receive structural subsidy and thus survive on the support of partners, sponsors and visitors. Our Open Call has always given everyone – regardless of experience – the chance to participate. It's part of our DNA. But we, like you, feel the pressure of rising costs. Our goal is that everyone has the chance to see their work come to life in this beautiful city. So, to keep this amazing platform open to as many people as possible we need your help.

If you're a professional, studio or company, we kindly ask that you contribute €35 to help us cover the costs of hosting the Open Call. Amsterdam Light Festival has been the springboard for many new artists and your contribution, together with ours, grants that opportunity to someone who otherwise couldn't afford it. If you're not able to support us right now, you do not have to make a contribution. This won't affect your chances of being part of Edition 15.

WHICH COSTS ARE COVERED?

The production costs of the artworks, travel costs and an artist fee. You can find more information in the artist briefing.

CAN I SUBMIT MULTIPLE CONCEPTS?

Yes, you can. If you would like to receive feedback per concept, you will need to request the artist briefing again, to receive a new submission ID for each submission.

CAN I STILL JOIN EDITION 14 (2025-2026)?

No, the Open Call has already taken place and the festival team and artists are currently busy with the preparations.
