Especially for Edition 13, renowned Indian artist Vibhor Sogani created an artwork, of which 75 unqiue copies have been made: Deepam, the light. This handmade Limited Edition brings light and hope in the 750th anniversary year of Amsterdam.
For Edition 13, Vibhor Sogani created a floating sea of flickering lights in Herengracht, inspired by the traditional oil lamps, which are central to the Indian festival of lights Diwali. In Indian culture, the lighting of lamp is a powerful symbol of the triumph of good over evil—where darkness exists, light brings hope and renewal.
These floating lanterns, with their warm, golden tones, dance with the flickering flames to dispel forces that seek to overshadow us. The work celebrates the timeless beauty of this ancient ritual, inviting viewers to partake in the spirit of Diwali and share its universal message of light and hope.
The Limited Edition is a lamp made of polished brass. The controlled undulations are carefully introduced to enhance and magnify the effect of the dancing amber flame inside. They also enhance the effect of the reflections onto its surroundings. In the light of Amsterdam750, 75 unique copies will be created, each made by hand.
By purchasing this Limited Edition, you not only become the proud owner of a unique light artwork, you also support our foundation. As a cultural not-for-profit that does not receive structural funds, we rely on the generousity of our visitors and the public. Curious to get your hands on a Limited Edition?
