Last Monday a special cruise took place, with 75 'rays of light' on board: special Amsterdammers that make an effort to make our city a better place.
Last October we launched our 'Nominate a ray of light' campaign, where people could nominate a special Amsterdam resident. These lichtpuntjes (rays of light), as we like to call them, make the city a better place every day. We have received more than 130 heartwarming nominations, of which we share a few below (these have been anonymized):
"Every since my Alzheimer's diagnosis, Jean takes me everywhere, even though he hates driving a car."
"73-year-old William keeps our neighbourhood clean, on a voluntary basis. Even though he has trouble walking, he makes his round EVERY single day!"
"Linda was my next door neighbor and has helped me through so much. Her friendship has been a light for me while living in Amsterdam."
On 6 January the day had come: 70 rays of light hopped on board a canal boat with their plus one. They cruised past the light artworks of Edition 13, with Amsterdam Circle Line. During the cruise, employees of the festival told the stories about the artworks, while the hosts served everyone drinks. Along the way, a stop was made to secure some tasty bitterballen. The 'lichtpuntjes cruise' was made possible by Amsterdam Circle Line, by offering us two canal boats incl. catering for this special evening.
The cruise took place in the light of Amsterdam750. On 27 October 2025, the city of Amsterdam will celebrate her 750th birthday; the perfect opportunity to also celebrate all those who make the city a better place, and put them in the spotlight for once. We want to thank all nominators, rays of light and our partners at Amsterdam Circle Line for this unforgettable evening.
Together we make the city shine!
