RHAPSŌIDIA ​

The word RHAPSŌIDIA comes from Ancient Greek and literally means 'stitched song.' It describes the ancient art of performing fragments of an epic as a single, flowing narrative. Inspired by this idea, Jessica Adkins, Alex Kendrick, and Ali Ucer weave together visitors' messages into a living, ever‑changing Odyssey.

The building behind it is no accident. Distinct from its neighbours, it’s one of the city's central communication exchanges – but it's undergoing a transformation. As Amsterdam replaces copper wires with fibre optic, huge telephone exchanges like this one are being reduced to smaller switches, leaving the building almost entirely empty. Yet within its walls linger the echoes of countless conversations and the blinking technology that once carried them.

In this unique building, where past and present meet, RHAPSŌIDIA reimagines what we share: a glowing dream of what lies ahead.
