Labyrinth

The colored light in the spider web, the shape of which is based on the map of Amsterdam, shows how the air quality in different parts of the city has changed during the corona crisis. It varied from dirty (red) and slightly cleaner (orange, yellow and purple) to relatively clean (blue). The reduction in car traffic was a major reason for the change; a development that will hopefully be permanent.

The air quality data in Amsterdam used for this artwork was collected and mapped by the GGD Amsterdam in December 2019 and May 2020. Because the average residents of Amsterdam lives a year shorter due to air pollution, the GGD works closely with other parties in Amsterdam to make enhance the quality of the air.
