Whale Fall​

When a whale dies and sinks to the ocean floor, its body becomes a rich food source for deep-sea life. Over months, years, and decades, it feeds entire ecosystems, from scavengers to microorganisms, sustaining life we never see. What appears as an end is, in truth, a beginning. It serves as a powerful reminder that even in death, our bodies nourish the earth, giving rise to new life.

The monumental rib-like structure stands as a memorial to the endless cycle of life and decay. The exposed steel core of the pavilion is further accented with strong lines of bloodred light, hinting at both life's pumping force and the impact the whaling industry has had on whales worldwide. It offers no enclosure, no shelter from the elements. Yet there's still a feeling of presence – even of home.

In the emptiness, we confront the essence of a legacy, both tangible and intangible: the cold steel bones, and the warmth of a memory kept alive.
