Lighting architect Har Hollands is no stranger to the world of light concepts. He has realized numerous lighting concepts all over the world, from Portugal to Egypt to China. His lighting designs not only adorn bridges and masts, but can be seen inside shopping malls, pyramids and temples too.
His expertise led him to be the curator of GLOW light festival in Eindhoven for many years. Hollands: "Light - an intangible building material - can be used in such a dynamic way that the lighting moves us." Why he likes to work with light?
Hollands’ designs are characterized by fantasy and functionality. He used 'illuminated brain cells' to light up the bridge at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, for example. Hollands: "Lighting architecture meets aesthetic, functional, and emotional needs. With my team, I try to integrate these different aspects by translating practical needs into a fascinating nocturnal experience."
He draws his inspiration from nature, painting, photography, and film. Hollands: "The films of Andrei Tarkovsky, Wim Wenders or Akira Kurosawa, for example. And the paintings by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner or Georg Baselitz." For edition #8 of Amsterdam Light Festival, he designs a unique architectural lighting installation.
