What is Amsterdam Light Festival?

Amsterdam Light Festival is a light art festival that will take place for the eleventh time this year. The route of 20 specially selected light artworks of international artists goes through the eastern part of the city centre of Amsterdam.

Who organises Amsterdam Light Festival?

The festival is organised by a foundation that is active year-round to enrich and connect people through light art. Read more about it here.

When is Amsterdam Light Festival?

The next edition - Edition 11 - of Amsterdam Light Festival takes place from 1 December 2022 until 22 January 2023.

What is this year’s theme?

The theme of Edition 11 is ‘Imagine Beyond’. The world is changing constantly and nothing seems as it was. During Edition 11 we will take you on a journey to the world of imagination, where we escape the here and now and look beyond the well-known. What will you discover?

What are the opening hours?

The lights are on daily between 5.00 and 11.00 pm (note: on New Year’s Eve until 8.00 pm).

What can I see and do?

The route with 20 light artworks can be experienced from the land or the water. Read more about the different types of cruise experiences here and more about the different walk experiences here.

Are the cruise- and walk routes different?

No, they are exactly the same.

Where do I find the route?

The route, including all locations and descriptions of the artworks, can be purchased via our ticketshop (click here). With your purchase you support the festival tremendously! The route goes via Oosterdok and the Amstel, to Entrepotdok.

Where can I buy tickets?

Tickets can be purchased via our online ticket shop, click here. Prefer to buy tickets in person? Then visit one of our information stands during the festival to get assisted with your purchase (see locations below).

I do not have a smartphone for the digital map. What now?

At one of our information stands you can purchase a printed map. Please note that we only have small quantities of the map available, as they are only meant for visitors without a (modern) mobile phone.

Are there toilets on the route?

We are unable to facilitate this ourselves. You can check out this page on the website of the City of Amsterdam for an overview of public toilets in Amsterdam.
