EDITIE 14

When does Edition 14 take place?

The fourteenth edition of Amsterdam Light Festival takes place from 27 November 2025 until 18 January 2026. The lights go on and off on different times:

  • From 27 November until 4 January the lights will go on at 4.30 p.m. From Wednesday to Saturday they're on until 11 p.m., from Sunday to Tuesday until 10 p.m.
  • From 5 January until 18 January, the lights will go on at 5 p.m. From Wednesday to Saturday they're on until 11 p.m., from Sunday to Tuesday until 10 p.m.

There are two exceptions:

  • During the Christmas holidays (20 Dec til 4 Jan) the lights are on daily until 11 p.m.
  • On New Year's Eve (31 December) the lights go out at 9 p.m.

What is Edition 15 about?

Edition 14 is all about the theme of Legacy. What will we leave behind? Which stories do we pass on? How do we want to be remembered? Twenty artists from around the world explored these questions. Each of them translated their personal interpretation of what it means to leave something behind into a visual and spatial experience. The result is a diverse collection of light artworks: exuberant yet modest, monumental yet intimate.

What is being organized?

During Amsterdam Light Festival the iconic canals of Amsterdam form the backdrop for the light artworks. This year, 20 artworks are curated specially for the festival, which can be admired from the water or from land. There will be no Light Garden this year.

  • Cruise: from the water you have unique views of the artworks. From a canal boat to a private cruise with dinner; anything is possible.
  • Walk: with our festival app you go on a winterly stroll through the city. You can choose between the Light Walk, Kids Walk or Foodwalk.
  • Bike: do as the locals do. Or join a guided bike tour and get to know everything about the art and the city by an experienced guide.

GENERAL INFO

What is Amsterdam Light Festival?

Amsterdam Light Festival is a light art festival that takes place every winter. The festival consists of a route of 20-30 unique light artworks, created especially for the festival. They are placed in, above and alongside the canals.

How are the artworks selected?

Every festival edition takes about 20 months of preperation. After thematic research, the Open Call takes place and creatives from around the world can submit their ideas. After a careful selection process (a.o. with an independent jury), the chosen concepts, together with the invited concepts, will be created under guidance of our artistic and technical team. When the festival is over, some artworks become part of the internationally travelling Light Art Collection.

How is Amsterdam Light Festival organized?

The festival is organized by the Amsterdam Light Festival Foundation. This cultural ANBI foundation is active year round to connect and enrich people through light art. Read more here meer.
