On this page you will find general questions and answers about Amsterdam Light Festival.
The fourteenth edition of Amsterdam Light Festival takes place from 27 November 2025 until 18 January 2026. The lights go on and off on different times:
There are two exceptions:
Edition 14 is all about the theme of Legacy. What will we leave behind? Which stories do we pass on? How do we want to be remembered? Twenty artists from around the world explored these questions. Each of them translated their personal interpretation of what it means to leave something behind into a visual and spatial experience. The result is a diverse collection of light artworks: exuberant yet modest, monumental yet intimate.
During Amsterdam Light Festival the iconic canals of Amsterdam form the backdrop for the light artworks. This year, 20 artworks are curated specially for the festival, which can be admired from the water or from land. There will be no Light Garden this year.
In our ticket shop you can find tickets for the different experiences. You can also find more information about departure times and locations. The festival app will be availbale in a later stage.
We are always curious for new collaborations. Got an illuminating idea? Then send us an email at partner@amsterdamlightfestival.com. It's not possible to participate as an artist anymore. Also the programming is more or less set in stone. If you still want to contact use, send an email to info@amsterdamlightfestival.com.
Amsterdam Light Festival is a light art festival that takes place every winter. The festival consists of a route of 20-30 unique light artworks, created especially for the festival. They are placed in, above and alongside the canals.
Every festival edition takes about 20 months of preperation. After thematic research, the Open Call takes place and creatives from around the world can submit their ideas. After a careful selection process (a.o. with an independent jury), the chosen concepts, together with the invited concepts, will be created under guidance of our artistic and technical team. When the festival is over, some artworks become part of the internationally travelling Light Art Collection.
The festival is organized by the Amsterdam Light Festival Foundation. This cultural ANBI foundation is active year round to connect and enrich people through light art. Read more here meer.
