What is Amsterdam Light Festival?

Amsterdam Light Festival is a yearly recurring festival in the city centre of Amsterdam. National and international artists are invited and called upon to create light artwork for the festival. This year Amsterdam Light Festival celebrates its tenth anniversary! The most appealing, inspiring and popular artworks of the past nine editions make a comeback on the canals of Amsterdam.

When is the festival?

Edition #10 of Amsterdam Light Festival takes place from December 2nd 2021 until January 23rd 2022.

What are the opening hours?

The lights are on between 5.00 and 10.00 p.m. (on NYE until 8.00 p.m.)

Where can I find the route of Edition #10?

The route including the locations and descriptions of the artworks can be purchased in our ticketshop. The artworks are placed in the public space, meaning they are visible and accessible for everyone.

Where do I get tickets?

Tickets for our cruise and walk experiences can be purchased in our ticketshop.

Are there information points on the route?

Do you sell merchandise?

What if I don't have a smartphone?

Are there toilets along the route?

We do not facilitate this. On the website of the City of Amsterdam you can find an overview of public toilets in Amsterdam.

Is there a difference between the Walk and Cruise route?

No, they are the same and you will be able to see all light artworks wheteher you take a walk or cruise.

Who organizes Amsterdam Light Festival?

Amsterdam Light Festival is a foundation with a board and management. The event is a private initiative in collaboration with the municipality, many cultural and commercial organizations. What happens to the artworks after the festival?

After each festival edition, a large part of the artworks is added to the internationally travelling collection, which is managed by Light Art Collection. Within this organization, a team is active year-round to find new exhibition possibilities, to provide the artworks and artists with opportunities around the world.
